Effective Communication Strategies
Explore ways that Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect an individual’s ability to communicate across different stages, and get tips to better communicate with people living with the disease.
Presented by: Melissa Grenier, Alzheimer’s Association
According to the 2023 Alzheimers Disease Facts and Figures report more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimers disease today, with 26,000 here in New Hampshire. Coming to terms with an Alzheimers or dementia diagnosis can be overwhelming. Following a diagnosis, many individuals and families are at a loss for where to turn for information, support, and resources. On Wednesday, November 29th, everyone is invited to attend one or both free educational programs being presented by the MA/NH Alzheimers Association. At 10am, Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body, learn how lifestyle choices impact the aging process with important information and research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity, and social engagement. Use hands on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging. And then, at 2pm, explore ways that Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect an individual’s ability to communicate across different stages, and get tips to better communicate with people living with the disease with Effective Communication Strategies. Presenter Melissa Grenier, the Alzheimer’s Associations Regional Manager for the State of New Hampshire, has worked in the areas of elder guardianship, home care, geriatric psychiatric care, and long-term care for over eighteen years. Both programs are available in person, or virtually. Additionally, the Alzheimers Association free, 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) offers around-the-clock support for caregivers and families impacted by Alzheimers and all dementia.
