The Driver Education Instructor certificate prepares students to become Certified Driver Education Instructors in both New Hampshire and Vermont. The courses for this certificate review the rules of the road and cover the methodology instructors use to teach a driver education course. The first step to becoming a certified instructor is to obtain Provisional Certification. Students may apply, at the state level, for Provisional Certification after completing the first three courses of the certificate;听DEDI101W,听DEDI103W, and听DEDI105W.听听

听In New Hampshire, Provisional Certification is obtained at the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Concord, NH. The DMV will have additional requirements listed below and will require both a written and driving examination. 听

听

Provisional Certification allows instructors to teach under supervision at a certified driving school. During the two-year Provisional Certificate, students must complete the five additional courses in our certificate program and complete 65 hours of supervised classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction in NH to be able to apply for a NH Standard Certificate.听 You must also work for a commercial driving school for a minimum of one year before you will be allowed to open a school of your own.

DEDI101W, DEDI103W, and DEDI105W are offered Fall, Spring, and Summer at 91吃瓜网. They are also all offered with no prerequisite requirements so they can be taken in any order.听听In DEDI105W, there is a mandatory in-person day at the Littleton Campus in the fourth or fifth week of the course.听 Depending on enrollment size, there may be two or more options for this mandatory in-person day.

Licensed educators and law enforcement may be able to get credit for one or more of the courses in the program. Please speak to the program coordinator or the Director of Student Success to see if you may qualify.

The State of New Hampshire will require applicants for the Provisional Certification to:听听听

• Have 5 years of consecutive driving experience听听
• Obtain Criminal Background Check听听
• Obtain Certified Motor Vehicle Driver Record (NH and any state where you held a driver鈥檚 license or had a conviction)听

These, however, are not requirements for admission to the Driver Education Instructor program at 91吃瓜网.听听

The State of Vermont has two paths to certification at different levels through the Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) and the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).听 Depending on what you wish to do in driver education, you may be required to take more courses than the initial three courses a NH Driving instructor has to take. For licensed educators, depending on the courses completed, it is an endorsement on a teaching credential from the VT AOE and there is not a requirement for the criminal background check.听 For licensure through the VT DMV, you do have to submit听a criminal background and provide a motor vehicle driver record check to the VT DMV. You are not required to submit these documents to 91吃瓜网.听
